Screams in the Night

I heard his screams in the night,
As he lay paralyzed with fright.
From his imaginations flowed,
Devilish demons with eyes that glowed.

Into the darkness his vision was cast;
His heart beating a rhythm fast.
From his thoughts; the banshees swirled;
Casting images of unpleasant worlds.

I reached to comfort his terrified soul,
Watching him shiver in the blackness and cold.
His eyes were open but he continued to see
The pagans of the night haunting his dreams.

I prayed aloud, but in my heart I knew.
The spirits of darkness were never through.
Maybe for the moment his dreams would end,
But with the closing of the eyes, they would return again.
